Autoblog is reporting that Jaguar is releasing its latest wagon, the Jaguar XF Sportbrake, at the upcoming Geneva Auto Show. And it’s only being released as a diesel, so that means it won’t be making the trip across the pond to our fair shores. According to the article, wagons/estates/shooting brakes make up 30% of the (obviously European) executive car market and Jaguar wanted to remain in that market with BMW and Mercedes.
We Yanks get the baffling BMW X6 and a boring Mercedes ML550 that outsells the E350 and E500 wagon by more than 60%. And the wagons we do get are all gasoline, thank you very much. Not a diesel in the bunch. Drive a new generation diesel for a week, look at your mileage and the ear-to-ear grin-inducing performance and then tell me again why you want that hybrid.
What’s even worse is that Jaguar is finally making a car that looks good, and apparently runs reliably for some time, unlike it’s storied ancestry.
Better looks, more cargo space and greater stability than a nation full of SUV’s. Take a good look at that photo above, America. What’s not to like?
